Following our 2 month summer training and development , Richmond Raider teams opened the season on Labour day weekend with a bang. All of the teams played this weekend on the road except for our mini flag team, who had a bye this week, and our Atom team, who won by forfeit.
The first game of the day featured the Raider JB's going into Langley Mcleod Stadium. McLeod stadium has been a difficult place to play for several years for many Raider teams. On this day, the JB's came in well prepared and cruised to an easy 26-0 victory over the Langley Outlaws. Tenzin Bray was magnificent on defense as he lead the Raiders with 8 QB sacks from the D End position as well as causing a fumble. Running the ball well for the Raiders were Isaac Rublacava and Holt McFie, both close to 100 yards each.
The second game also played at Langley McLeod Stadium was the Bantam Raiders vs the Langley Mustangs. As the day was hot, the Bantam Raiders muscled their opponent 26-0 in 2 quarters of play. The game was stopped at the end of the 2nd half as the Langley Mustangs were missing a few players and did not have enough to field a team in the 2nd half. Scoring touchdowns on the ground for the Raiders were Josh Rozentals, Javon Reed, and Zack Kebede. Jordan Freeland scored the 4th touchdown on a qb sneak. Armaan Gill had the games only interception and returned it to Langley's 5 yard line, setting up Zack Kebede's TD. The entire defense was strong as Langley recorded no positive yards in the 2 quarters of play.
The last game of the day featured the Peewee Raiders in South Delta. To finish the day perfect, the Peewee team defeated South Delta 36-0. Once again there were many standouts on offense, lead by Cole Presley's throwing and running. The Peewee defense gave little or no room for any South Delta running backs or receivers to gain positive yards. This was a total team effort on defense.
Next week, 4 Raider teams from flag up to JB will play at Minoru starting at 10:00 am. The Bantam team enjoys an early bye week and will next play Sept 17 in Victoria against the Spartans at Westhill Stadium.
